Description
Welcome to Whinny Brae! This lovely apartment is set in a tastefully restored Edwardian building with elegant Art Nouveau architecture. Thanks to its former life as a primary school, its rooms are spacious and light-filled, plus there’s plentiful outside space too, with pretty gardens and private parking. Add to that a stylish modern interior plus a convenient location just minutes from the beach and town centre and you’ve got the perfect backdrop for your stay in this popular seaside borough.
The Eastern Residences, as the complex is now known, is a charming mix of contemporary living with the historic grandeur of the original sandstone building. There’s a sense of spaciousness with large windows flooding light in and emphasized by the use of a mezzanine level for the 2 double bedrooms upstairs (clever use of glass means there’s no noise issue from the living area though!). Plus, there’s a feeling of luxury coastal retreat thanks to the stylish décor choices.
On the ground floor there’s a large open plan living area with comfortable sofas, a dining table for 6, and a high quality modern kitchen which is fully equipped. There’s also a large pantry area and a useful utility room (ideal for storing those golf clubs perhaps?). The bathroom on the ground level is has both a bath and a shower and there’s another shower room upstairs for convenience. There’s even a desk area at the top of the stairs if you need to do a spot of correspondence while you’re here, like writing your postcards!
The development is beautifully maintained and offers private allocated parking for two vehicles, plus guest parking, a covered bike store, drying area and well maintained gardens.
KEY FEATURES
• 2 spacious double bedrooms
• Large bright open-plan living area with dining for 6
• Hi-spec Modern Fitted Kitchen
• Bathroom and shower room
• Central Broughty Ferry Position
• Private Parking plus bike store
LOCATION
The property has a great location in the upmarket coastal suburb of Broughty Ferry, to the east of Dundee. You’re within comfortable walking distance of the heart of town which has a good selection of fine restaurants, cafés and shops including independent stores and art galleries.
‘The Ferry’, as it’s known locally, has origins as a fishing town and there’s lots of history to explore. Down near the seashore, the striking Broughty Castle is well worth a visit. Dating back to 1490 when it was built to protect the Tay estuary, it now houses a museum which explains the history of this pretty area.
The famous golf courses at Carnoustie and St Andrews are close by and there are other excellent courses locally for avid golfers to test their links game. The award-winning sandy beach nearby provides a haven for wildlife and a lovely place to spend some time. Families love the children’s playpark at Castle Green and there are lots of local cycle paths too.
Broughty Ferry train station is within walking distance, which makes it perfect for exploring further afield by rail. The city of Dundee, which claims to be Scotland’s sunniest city, is just 4 miles away with several notable attractions such as the V & A museum. There is a very good road network here and Dundee airport is 6 miles away from the apartment.

Whether you’re here for a family break, a golf weekend, or a work trip, this is a comfortable and well-located base in one of the East Coast’s most popular coastal towns.
This first-floor apartment offers more space than most, with large, light-filled rooms and a simple, practical layout. It’s well suited to families, friends or colleagues travelling together, with flexible sleeping arrangements and everything you need for a short or longer stay.
There are two generous bedrooms that have:
A double bed and a single bed
A double bed
The living area flows into a fully equipped kitchen, complete with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, and all the essentials for preparing and enjoying meals at home.
The bathroom includes a full-size bath with an overhead shower, and the apartment is heated by a gas central system, keeping it warm and comfortable.
Free on-street parking is available right outside and on the surrounding streets - no permit needed.
The Location
The apartment is just a few minutes’ walk from Broughty Ferry beach, Castle Green playpark, and Broughty Castle, with its brilliant views and small on-site museum. The train station is nearby, and everything in the town - from independent boutiques and well-known eateries to local favourites like The Selkie and Forgan’s, are easily reached on foot.
It’s a fantastic holiday base if you’re:
Visiting Dundee too (10 minutes by car / 6 minutes by train)

Exploring St Andrews and the wider East Neuk (about 30 minutes’ drive)
Working in Dundee or the surrounding areas
Broughty Ferry itself is a lovely place to spend time - known for its coastal charm, relaxed atmosphere, and excellent food and drink. The nature reserve nearby offers quiet walking routes and wildlife spotting, and the beach is great for walks, runs, or simply watching the boats go by. We certainly recommend booking a trip with Salt Dog Marine for some dolphin spotting on The Tay - CAP guests get 10% off!
